Vision

The Ontario Bariatric Network (OBN) will be the recognized leader in bariatric care, education, and research.

Mission

The Ontario Bariatric Network (OBN) will collaboratively provide comprehensive medical and surgical bariatric services for persons suffering from obesity and obesity-related disease and advance patient care in Ontario through education and research.

About Us

The Ontario Bariatric Network (OBN) was established in 2009 as part of the Ontario Bariatric Services Strategy initiated by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care of Ontario.

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) had a vision to develop the Provincial Bariatric Program to make treatment more accessible, reduce the number of people suffering from obesity and obesity related diseases, seeking out of province treatment and improve patient flow.  To achieve this vision, the MOHLTC approached Dr. Mehran Anvari, a renowned general surgeon with provincial leadership in bariatrics and program development, to lead this exciting project as the provincial Clinical Lead and Chair of the Ontario Bariatric Network.

The success of this program is due to the leadership of the OBN Advisory Board, comprised of clinical and administrative specialists from each of the bariatric programs within the province. This Advisory Board was established to promote collective decisions and collaborative action amongst leading experts in bariatrics in order to guide clinical decision making and provide the best standard of care to bariatric patients in Ontario.
